The Carnival Of Personal Finance, Second Anniversary
The second anniversary of the Carnival of Personal Finance is being hosted by Get Rich Slowly. Family Finance Blog participated with Personal Finance Rule: Know Thyself. He did a great job with the Carnival, and you should go check it out. Here are a few of my favorites.
Picking money over time. Apparently October 24 (or somewhere around there) is Take Back Your Time Day because Americans, on average work about 9 weeks more per year than our Western European counterparts! Money and Values talks about money vs. time and calls for a reduced American work load. I’m all for it! I work hard to not work too hard, but I know a lot of people don’t have that choice.
Spending your money on doing things rather than owning things. I think this is a pretty good summary of my own philosophy as well. I was thinking of putting a post on this together, but I’ll just point to this article for now.
Making the financial sacrifice to get what you want. My Two Dollars talks about some simple steps that they took to get something they wanted - a house by the beach.
How to beat the car dealers at their own game. We’re thinking about a new (used) car, but it’s good to hear some “inside information” about how to go about buying a car. Someone I once new shopped for his new car on a weeknight after going home, eating a nice meal and showering. Be fresh and bring a book for when they make you wait while they “check with their manager.” Personally, I like to shop for cars on rainy days towards the end of a month or financial quarter. The salesmen are much more desperate then.
